Are you about to move? Are you dreading it? Lost of people are moving almost all of the time. At least 15.4 million people moved into principal cities and another 11 million moved in between 2005 and 2010. During that same time period the suburbs gained nearly 18 million residents and lost 9.2 million. No matter how you slice it, that is a lot of people moving from one place to another. This can be a very stressful experience but there are moving solutions you can use to make it all less so.

1. Organize yourself with a list.

Even if you are not a list person, making one before you start your move is one of the best moving tips around. Having a simple but neat organizational system will help you once you get to your new residence. Here/s one way to do this. Every time you pack a box, label it with a number. Put that number on top of a list of everything that is in that box. It may seem like a pain at first but when you are unpacking you will be happy you did this. You can use a notebook or your computer to generate the list. Both work. These lists are separate from any moving checklist, which is more of a “to do” list. Those are very helpful as well.

2. Get more supplies than you think you will need.

Whenever people move, they underestimate how much stuff they actually have to move. When you are talking to professional moving companies and getting your moving solutions together, get more boxes, tape, packing materials, etc. than you think you will need. There are some companies that let you borrow boxes, which is a much more environmentally friendly way to do a move. Add some last minute boxes to the number you get. There are always small items that need to be packed at the last minute. If you do not use a box, that is ok. It is much better to have a box and not need it than to need one and not have it.

3. Get good tape.

You will absolutely want to have strong tape when you are closing up your boxes. This is especially key when you are closing the boxes with bedding like pillows and comforters and that sort of thing. These items do not weigh a lot but they take up a lot of space and can spring out of the boxes into which you placed them.

4. Do not overload your boxes.

It is easy to make a box too heavy for anyone, even your professional movers, to lift You want to avoid this at all costs. Basically, fill a box with some books and then some light items on top of the heavy ones. Use smaller boxes for the heavy belongings that you are moving, This will make it easier for everyone who is working on your move. You also risk breaking the boxes if you make them too heavy, which can lead to your valuables being broken or destroyed.

5. Get some wardrobe boxes.

These are fantastic for bulk items that are lightweight. These are not boxes you will want to use for books or heavy items. If you have items that you are not going to fold like clothing that will remain on hangers, one of the great moving solutions is the wardrobe box. Talk to your moving company about the dimensions of their wardrobe boxes and then determine how many you want to use.

6. Get as organized as you can get.

When you are first packing, start with things you are not using. If you are moving in the colder months, start by packing your summer clothes and items. If you have seven television sets, do you need to use them all? Make a plan for when you will pack certain rooms and items. be strategic in your planning. If you do not have a lot of time to get your things together or map out your moving solutions plan but if you have time, it will make the process easier.
