Medical packaging techniques

Medical supplies have a specific code that they have to be up to in order to be shipped. The drug quality and security act ensures that medications are safe and protected during transportation. Part of this drug quality and security act includes how the medications and supplies are packaged. There are a few different medical packaging techniques including medical blister packaging among other types. Blister pack packaging is the most popular way to package supplies because of their intense secure features. Here are just a few of those features.

Security
The way in each these packs are sealed is done in such a way that they can not be opened mid transport. This means that there is no chance of someone stealing or switching the supplies and drugs during transportation. This was a worry for awhile but now with the improved sealing method, it’s no longer a worry. Medications and medical supplies can be sold for a lot of money on the black market so there are people who would like to seal then but it is a lot more difficult to do without being noticed now.

Safety
The products are also now safe from contamination. Other types of packages that don’t seal as well, leave just enough room for toxins or gases to enter the packaging, contaminating the objects inside. Now, it’s impossible for anything to get through. the only gases that stay inside is the oxygen that was in there when the package was sealed. It’s a great way to make sure that the products are completely safe by the time they get into the patient’s hands.

Visibility

Customization
Blister packs can be made in all shapes, sizes and colors. This helps functionality and appeal at the same time. It doesn’t matter how big or small or odd shaped the product is, there can be a custom package made to perfectly fit the product. From a marketing stand point, the packages don’t have to be boring and plain. They can have color and graphics and design on them that makes them more visually appealing to the customer. Many people will subconsciously not buy a certain package because another one was more colorful and entertaining and deep down they think that it will work better because of that.

Standards
The drug quality and security act holds blister packs to a higher standard. This means that they must pass more tests and undergo further scrutiny that packaging in the past. This is to make sure that this type of packaging really is better than what was being used before. There were obviously flaws in the previous designs and that’s why blister packaging had to be made.

Of course, there may be negative sides of blister packaging as there is with everything. For example, they can be very difficult to open and people have actually cut themselves before. However, there are usually signs printed on the packages that inform the buyer that they need scissors in order to open the packaging and it cannot be done by hand. Usually injuries occur when someone doesn’t pay attention to those instructions and still tries to use only their hands or teeth to open the package.

Either way, blister packaging is the way to go for medical supplies. It may be easy to think that it’s not a big deal to have the cheaper packages but the increased expensive of blister packs not only gives patients peace of mind but it always ensures safety, security and the points mentioned above. Knowing these things will probably help you to make a more informed decision when needing to choose between over the counter medications in the future.
