Having a simple but neat organizational system will help you once you get to your new residence. Here/s one way to do this. Every time you pack a box, label it with a number. Put that number on top of a list of everything that is in that box. It may seem like a pain at first but when you are unpacking you will be happy you did this. You can use a notebook or your computer to generate the list. Both work. These lists are separate from any moving checklist, which is more of a “to do” list. Those are very helpful as well.
2. Get more supplies than you think you will need.

There are some companies that let you borrow boxes, which is a much more environmentally friendly way to do a move. Add some last minute boxes to the number you get. There are always small items that need to be packed at the last minute. If you do not use a box, that is ok. It is much better to have a box and not need it than to need one and not have it.
3. Get good tape.
You will absolutely want to have strong tape when you are closing up your boxes. This is especially key when you are closing the boxes with bedding like pillows and comforters and that sort of thing.
