Natural gas is often lumped into the category of a fossil fuel, as being one of the types of energy that has led to greenhouse emissions and has caused trouble for our environment. But lately, there has been a push to make natural gas even cleaner than it already is (compared to oil and coal).
Although the average American home consumes 40% less natural gas tan it did 40 years ago, there has been an effort to make it more accepted in American society. For instance, natural gas efficiency programs have been funded, which have helped customers save 175 trillion Btu of energy and offset 9.1 million metric tons of CO2 emissions in 2014.

This push has directly led to a betterment in CO2 for the environment and increased the efficiency of diesel engines.
