Our planet is in danger for various reasons. Some are out of our hands and we kind of just have to sit back and hope for the best. Some, however, are things that we can control. Things that we have been able to control for years but, for the most part, we just don’t.
Not recycling and littering is literally destroying our world.
Not throwing garbage away is just ridiculous. For those sick individuals who intentiolly liter just to damage our environment — they can’t be helped. But for the ones who do care about our planet and want to help, they just might not know what to do, there are things that can be done.
Throwing out your garbage in garbage disposals is pretty self-explanatory. Just do it.
Clothing, however, is something that most people don’t really associate with the environment. But if we just throw away our clothes, they will end up in landfills and that will definitely hurt the environment.
Charitable clothing donations can prevent this damage from happening. Rather than throwing out all those old T-shirts and hoodies, make charitable donations to companies that will pass those clothing items along to kids and people in need.
It’s so sad to see a homeless person in ripped clothing when there are so many pounds of clothing just thrown away every year. Wholly 85% of used clothing is thrown out in the United States. That means that U.S. citizens only recycle or make charitable clothing donations with 15% of their used clothing.
Keeping clothes from pilling up and filling our landfills is extremely important for the future of our environment. A few years ago, in 2006, there was more than 2.5 billion pounds of textiles kept from filling landfills because of charitable clothing donations. That’s a giant number, but sadly, isn’t even close to the amount that did plug those landfills.
For change to happen, we all have to take part and spread the importance of recycling, NOT LITTERING, and donating our used clothes to charities.
Take a long look at your closet. There is probably at least 50% of the clothes in there that can be donated because no one wears them. Rather than leaving them there and then throwing them out because you’re in a hurry one day, why not take them out now, and donate to charity. You will feel much better about yourself and the environment after you do. Learn more at this link.
