When you’re a student – particularly a student of ah higher level, such as a college student – there are many things that you’ll need. From notebooks to a computer to a place to keep assignments to a good internet connection, the list is endless. For students studying in any given scientific field, the need for tools such as laboratory notebooks is even more important. Even in today’s day and age, where technology is king, the use of the scientific lab notebook is still hugely important, as writing things down by hand in notebooks can be beneficial not only for quick note taking, but for memory as well.
And scientific notebooks allow students to look back on them over the course of their education, which can be quite a long one, to say the least. Pharmaceutical students, for instance, spend up to eight years in college in order to get their Pharm.D. and officially be able to call themselves a pharmacist. This is certainly a long time to be studying and in the world of education (with the help of lab notebooks, of course), but it’s time spent that is likely to pay off, as the market for global Pharma is likely to exceed $1 trillion by the time that we reach the year of 2022, now less than five full years in the future.
As the United States is in control of as much has 45% of this market at the current date, students studying pharmacology are likely to have a world of opportunity open up for them once they graduate with jobs in the pharmaceutical field expected to grow by as much has 3% by the time that we reach the year of 2024. In order to graduate, however, they’ll need to work hard. Using a lab notebook or multiple lab notebooks can help them to keep track of all of their notes and use them for future learning, giving them something to look back on for studying or even in their professional careers.
And pharmacists to be are certainly not the only science students for whom lab notebooks are likely to be hugely beneficial. In fact, this is far from the case, as many biochemistry students also use lab notebooks over their long course of study. And biochemistry students, like pharmacy students, have also been found to be on the rise in recent years. In fact, more than 9,500 biochemistry degrees were awarded in the one year of 2016 alone, let alone in any other year in recent history.
The world of biochemistry, after all, is one that looks incredibly promising for the typical biochemistry student. While job growth is happening in the pharmaceutical world as well, this job growth is even more prominent in the world of biochemistry, a field that is likely to grow in the number of jobs available by as much as 23% in the years that are to come. For prospective biochemistry majors, the pay off of hard work and long hours spent studying is likely to be a considerable one, as biochemistry is a growing field that is likely to lead to a great deal of innovation and change in how we think about science and the world around us in the years that are to come.
Again, however, the use of a research notebook is hugely important. Unfortunately, far too many students do not realize that this is the case, preferring to keep all of the important information of their lives stored in their phones or computers. Notebooks, however, should still be relevant in the typical classroom, be it a science classroom or even a high school English classroom.
By actively taking notes, it has been found that many students are better able to focus. Even more will better be able to look back on these notes when they are studying – or even when they just can’t remember a specific piece of important information. In science fields like biochemistry and pharmacology, the use of notebooks is more important than in many other areas of learning, as the retention of a truly vast amount of information is critical for any given student finding success in the field.
